“Big Balls’ is the self titled online nickname associated with Edward Coristine, a 19 year old software engineer employed by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

DOGE - seen as a controversial initiative - is tasked to cut government spending, reduce waste and modernise federal technology and software under the current Trump administration.

Mr Coristine, however, became the subject of worldwide media scrutiny after it was revealed he was previously fired from an internship at a cybersecurity firm for allegedly leaking company secrets to a competitor.

This portrayal led to his temporary resignation from DOGE before he was reinstated as a “Senior Adviser" for the State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Technology. This transition was met with criticism due to concerns over conduct and access to sensitive information.

Working alongside colleagues of similar age, background and experiences there have been reports of aggressive questioning of federal employees by these young engineers with the “Big Balls” moniker becoming the perfect meme for “The Doge Kids”. Big Balls has since grown to represent the overall ongoing work of DOGE as they continue to expose and remove inefficiencies within the federal government.

Big Balls memes have also gone viral with Elon Musk stating “This is a job for Big Balls”, “Personally, I voted for Big Balls” and “Big Balls is awesome” in recent X posts.

The Department of Big Balls reflects the collective efforts of DOGE and their leader but also represents all that have “Big Balls”
